I was born at the old Charing Cross Hospital and spent the first five years of my life living in St Anne’s Flats in Somers Town with my mum, dad, and brother Michael. Somers Town had been home to Mum and Dad’s family for over 150 years.
When I was five, my family relocated from Somers Town to Boreham Wood in Hertfordshire, where I grew up. I had a wonderful childhood, surrounded by open fields, including one that stretched right behind our back garden.
I married at 23 and settled in St Albans, where we were blessed with two incredible children who filled our lives with joy. Now grown and with families of their own, they live nearby. I cherish every moment with them and am a proud grandmother to four beautiful grandchildren.
When my brother and I found the notebooks, we chose to compile their contents into a book. Sadly, just nine months after our mother passed, my beloved brother also died. It has been incredibly hard, but I was determined to finish the book. Now, it stands not only as a tribute to my mother’s memory but also as a celebration of my dear brother Mike’s life.
I feel incredibly fortunate that Mum shared her stories with me. They have brought me immense joy and led to new friendships as well as the discovery of cousins I never knew existed. I’ve also had the privilege of giving a talk at the Somers Town People’s Museum, and now I’ve created this website.
